Artists Statement
I believe that ceramics is an art and I work with the intention of producing decorative forms. If my pots have a degree of stillness and presence then I am happy with them. The greatest challenge is to trust yourself.
I throw and hand build pots as I enjoy both the techniques involved in these making processes, and a variety of challenge is important to me.
Using a white stoneware clay body I throw and hand build. I use coloured slips and fire to stoneware temperatures sometimes with the application of a clear glaze on partial areas of the piece. Both the large and small bottle forms are fired to earthenware temperatures with a vibrant blue barium glaze sprayed onto the surface to create the desired misty effect.
I have lately become interested in working in a more sculptural way and I am
experimenting with the use of analogy, working with the theme of displacement and using boat forms to describe this feeling.
